Plan B

In an effort to be more positive, I thought I’d share this with you:

Plan A is always my first choice.
You know, the one where
Everything works out to be
Happily ever after.

But more often than not,
I find myself dealing with
The upside-down,
Inside-out version
Where nothing goes as it should.

It’s at this point that the real test
Of my character comes in…
Do I sink or do I swim?
Do I wallow in self-pity
And play the victim
Or simply shift gears
And make the best of the situation?
The choice is mine. After all…
Life is about
How you handle plan B.

This was printed inside my birthday card from my parents. It now resides inside a lovely silver frame that used to hold a wedding photo of a young couple whose marital bliss is no longer. (That photo took a rather satisfying trip through my shredder.)

My mom wrote that I was proving “incredible” at Plan B. I’m not sure I agree, but I’m glad I’m at least projecting the illusion that I’m capable of keeping my hat on my head in a windstorm.
